Matilda the Musical
Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world.
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!
Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
Unity Stage Theatrics
The Magnet Cove Theatre department was revived in 2016 by English teacher Adam Stage. At the time the organization was operating as the Magnet Cove High School Drama Club. In 2017 and 2018 the 50 year old theatre/auditorium was given some updates with the addition of new curtains and drapes, new carpeting and epoxy in the seating areas, and lastly a brand new lighting system with 24 new fixtures. In 2019 the drama club took on a challenge and produced their first full length musical, “Lucky Stiff”. The musical was a massive success.
In the summer of 2022, The alumni and friends of the drama club returned to the stage to produce Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5”. This time students from the neighboring Poyen School District joined the Magnet Cove Kids. The show was another success.
In the spring of 2023, Poyen High School, led by choir director Abby Gage, and Magnet Cove High School, led by band director Andy Beck would officially join music departments for the first time to produce “Oklahoma”. Mrs. Gage took on the role of Musical Director, Visual Director, and Assistant Director. Mr. Beck took on the roll of Set Designer, Technical Designer, and Director.
Working together since 2023, Unity Stage Theatrics has become a small school success, performing the hit musicals Oklahoma, Shrek, Alice by Heart, Once Upon A Mattress, and Grease.
Ever since Adam Stage revived the drama program we have continued to grow and develop and have included Stage Manager Jeannie Toole, Creative Director Benjamin Akre, Choreographers Kelsey Vega and Chloe Cofer, Set Builders Zach Wacaster and Grady Young, Lighting Designer Emma Melvin, and Sound Designer Gavin “Wally” Wallace.
With continued community support, we at the Unity Stage cannot wait to see how far we can go on a local community schools stage.
